What should I pack for a holiday to Scotland?

Question by shaashiie: What should I pack for a holiday to Scotland?
I’ll be visiting my family in scotland for two weeks. I leave this wednesday and will get there on thursday the 18th and leave July 3rd. How has the weather been there? I’ll be on the west coast in Dunoon, Greenoch, and Rothesay most likely. I have checked the forecasts but I know the weather there can change rather quickly. I don’t want to pack my whole wardrobe, but last time I visited I found I wasn’t very well prepared. It was in the 60s (fahrenheit of course) for most of the time but for a few days it went up to the 80s and was scorching. Any suggestions on how to pack as light as possible but still have everything I need for the changing weather? I was there in August last time and this time it’s june so will it . . . → Read More: What should I pack for a holiday to Scotland?

Will banks in Scotland open on the 4th January 2011? What about the Post Office?

Question by Jay Dee: Will banks in Scotland open on the 4th January 2011? What about the Post Office?
It’s a bank holiday in Scotland (substituting 2nd January bank holiday), but I am not sure whether banks will really be closed (sometimes this issue of different bank holidays between England/Wales and Scotland can be very confusing).

Best answer:

Answer by The Dark SideI’m pretty certain they will be closed.

What type of Wetsuit should I buy for surfing, windsurfing and snorkeling on holiday in Orkney, N. Scotland?

Question by Matt TD: What type of Wetsuit should I buy for surfing, windsurfing and snorkeling on holiday in Orkney, N. Scotland?
I have no experience of wetsuits, so am wondering what type, thickness and style to get for the chilly Orcadian waters!

Best answer:

Answer by g_steedPlease consult with other surfers. Deal with a good shop. Don’t neglect trying a ‘dry suit’. Cold water is enervating. Moving cold water is even more enervating. Thick wet suits may keep you warm longer but are restrictive of movement. If conditions are pleasant a ‘shorty’ may suffice. Both surfing and wind surfing expose you to the air. Evaporation will cool you. Be careful….

Mobile phone for Scotland holiday?

Question by sky_kats: Mobile phone for Scotland holiday?
My friend and I will be visiting Edinburgh for about 2 weeks in September. We want to be able to call our familes while gone. Would it be best to purchase a cheap phone from a travel site like this http://www.telestial.com/promo/packlite.php or are cheap phones available over there?
When we went to Ireland, we decided to get a phone there and were never able to find a single one for sale. I would like to spend no more than US/£30UK on a phone as I’m from the US and most phones here do not work on a GSM network as yours do.
Buy a phone before we get there or once we get there (and any tips on where to find them if so)?
Thanks!!!

Answer by yorickSome of the major supermarkets in the UK are selling basic phones, nothing fancy at cheap prices for £10 or less. It depends what you want the phone to . . . → Read More: Mobile phone for Scotland holiday?

Question by russnofuss: Is today, August 28th, a bank holiday in SCOTLAND?
It is not recognized as a statatory bank holiday, but there is no mail today and most businesses are closed.
It’s a shame that Colorado is a prick. I thought Yahoo Answers was supposed to be used to for supportive comments and answers. And yes, I’ve been to the bank and it’s closed. But that doesn’t mean it’s a a bank holiday.
