The Best Self Catering Holiday Cottages in Scotland
Article by Vernon
It is often very confusing when you look for a self catering accommodation in Scotland. Most of us are familiar with the Highlands and Islands, and these are the most popular regions, however getting there can be very difficult and ironically you may well travel past some of the best Scottish scenery to get there. The other difficulty is the online plethora of awful property. If you are looking for good quality holiday cottages with character in spectacular locations it is just about impossible to find. Most websites have thousands of choices and they all say they are great and as many of us have experienced they may claim to be better than they are. Tourist Board website Visitscotland offers a 4 or 5 star property selection, but even though this guarantees a degree of comfort their criteria does not include some of the most important features of a property like . . . → Read More: The Best Self Catering Holiday Cottages in Scotland

Question by pixieandmacy: What do you think of my plans?
Hi, I currently live in England with my boyfriend and dog. We live in a rural village in the ribble valley in north west England.
I currently work in supply chain and my boyfriend is starting his own website design company.
If we can ever afford it – we would love to move to rural Scotland, and have a house with land and seperate properties so I can follow my dreams, and my boyfriend to continue with his business.
I would like to have a (or a few) holiday cottage(s) and have a small trekking centre, really just for the use of the holiday guests, so like a trekking holiday. I would also like enough land / barns to take in rescued animals – so maybe also run a small animal sanctury.
Do you think I can achieve this or am I just dreaming?

Question by Liana: Where to stay in Scotland for Christmas? Cottages and mansions?
I have been trying to find somewhere a bit unusual or upmarket for a family holiday this Christmas / New Year. I’ve looked at Sawday’s but they’re mainly B&B. When I do a normal google I get the usual last minute sites and 100’s of irrelevant / too expensive / fully booked stuff.
Anyone know of one stop site where I can find something unusual and book online?
Best answer:
Answer by GarryHave you tried Scottish sites? I don’t know if they have any Christmas 2009 or New Year 2010 left but www.cottages-and-castles.co.uk is a big site and does show availability. Have castles for rent !! J Good luck and let us know what they are like.

Question by peterpan_barrie: What should I do when I finally get to Scotland?
I asked before about Scotland (just a few days ago), I was wondering if it would be better to book a cottage before I went or if I should go and stay in a hotel ’til I find one I like? For the period I want to stay ( 6 months), I would like a place that is not touristy, I am not going for vacation, but to relax and do my work. All the places I have looked at online are holiday cottages and because of this they are very expensive to rent. I was wondering if I should just stay in a hotel until I find a house in a small village that I got to view before I decide? Any help would be great.

I do plan on it being some sort of a vacation, I do not plan to sell any of my writing or art . . . → Read More: What should I do when I finally get to Scotland?

Question by Jeremy Markson: I need a family holiday but I dont know where to go Urania or Scotland?
Its that time of the year again, I need to take the bastard family on a vacation. Where after 355 days of slave labour I get a big holiday before going back to work. I have 2 choices:
Urania or Scotland?
Urania:
Urania is a small but thriving country in the Middle West. The capital city of Nukem was nuked in 2005 which led to a rise in people’s testicles being infested with radioactivity. The hotels are frequently raided for tourist treasures by Ak47 weilding lunatics. The currency used in Urania is the Plutonia. The frequency is 5000plt – and the yearly wage is 2500plt.
Urania has many tourist attractions such as the world’s largest cesspool, where visitors can go in and take a dip. And there is the great mushroom lake, this lake was formed when a nuclear bomb hit a cottage, then heavy rainfall . . . → Read More: I need a family holiday but I dont know where to go Urania or Scotland?

Question by Lisa: How to set up a postcard address to Scotland from the US?
I am going to send a letter to a band I live in the US and they are in Scotland and I have no idea how the format of the address should be on the envelope. Can someone show me how to? Here’s what they posted:

The first line and the postcode (PH33 6SD) should be enough for the UK postal system once it arrives here.
