Wedding anniversary is coming up! Forgot all about it. My wife wants to go golfing, I’m rubbish but she’s ok, need somewhere to go – hopefully somewhere a bit ‘posh’ and a hotel nearby. All answers gratefully accepted. Thanks for saving my skin in advance”

The Dalmunzie Golf Course in Perthshire. A lovely nine holer set in the hills in northern Perthshire attached to a lovely little hotel. I had lunch in the hotel and played the course. Wonderful views, a nice challanging short course and good service.

We have already booked Turnberry now we need to book 3 more. Please give me your best remaining 3 in this area. We make take the 2 1/2 hr drive to play the Castle Course in St. Andrews. The old course is all booked!

Answer by Cama555Largs Golf Club is the local club which is famous for being the home of teaching guru Bob Torrance (father of Sam the British Ryder Cup player).
It is defintely worth a visit.

Loch Lomond Golf Club is only about 27 miles north of Largs.

Gleneagles is 78 miles from Largs, and is about a 2 hour drive in the general direction of St Andrews.

I heard that there is a lottery. If there any way to raise the odds of playing as I’m taking my sone for a mini-vaction and he would live to play.

Answer by iwasnotanazipolkaNo the lottery is the way. At the end of September, you should be able to get in. I played in early July and it was fine.

But! Make sure you have a handicap certificate with you. One of our group was denied access to the Old Course because he had left his handicap cert at home. Men need a handicap of no higher than 24.

Answer by wbaker777The Evening at Turnberry Hotel is the obvious choice…but you may have to stay elsewhere due to bookings already made due to the tournament……Not many towns real close by for sure
